What
makes a good photograph?
A
good photograph takes into account many different factors. One of the most
important ones is the composition of the photograph. If the main focus of the
photograph is off-center or blocked by something, unless this is intentional,
then the message of the photograph may not be shown in the image.
The
photograph should be able to tell a story or convey a message to the viewer.
The image can be used to provoke an emotional response in the viewer, whether
that be anger, confusion or sadness, the viewer should be able to interpret the
image in their own way and have their own idea on what the image could mean.
A
good photograph doesn’t have to focus on one individual subject, it can cover a
wide variety of subjects in different ways to convey a larger message to the
audience. The colours of a good photograph should help convey the message, it
could be really colorful to convey happiness or a less serious message, or it
might be black and white to convey sadness or a more serious message. The angle
of a photograph can change the meaning.
So finding the right angle to help
convey your message can be really important. However, sometimes a good photograph may not have any of the factors stated above, it may just be that the photographer was in the right place at the right time and was able to take that photograph. Throughout this unit I will try to
take the best photographs that I can by using angles, colours and focus to try
and put a message across.
